September 11, 2018, Overton, NV – Overton Power District No. 5 was awarded on September 5, 2018, two grants from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE) to fund the construction of two Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations alongside the I-15 corridor, one in Moapa and one in Mesquite, NV. Each grant awarded is worth $150,000 and construction must be completed no more than six (6) months after the Notice of Award (NOA) was issued.

These two EV charging stations are part of the state’s initiative to complete the Nevada Electric Highway (NEH) that will be serving the entire state by 2020. Funding for the EV charging stations was awarded by the GOE through a reimbursable subgrant process to electric providers, who will operate and maintain EV charging stations either by direct ownership or by executing third-party host site agreements for EV charging stations within their service territory.

The District has identified and secured a host-site location for one of the EV charging stations in Moapa, NV. In the upcoming weeks, Overton Power District No. 5 will advertise in the local newspapers and social media the application process to be considered a potential host-site location in Mesquite, NV. To be considered a host-site, the property must be located no further than 5 miles from Interstate Highway 15 (I-15) and meet certain criteria, including access to public restrooms and amenities. After the construction of the EV charging station is completed, Overton Power District No. 5 will assign ownership to the host-site selected.
